The First Blog for 2018

Wow! I can not believe that I have not posted anything for over four months. I have been busy with some shows and, of course, painting. Most of my winter shows have come and gone but I do have a couple upcoming spring shows. The first is a VASA show (St. Albert) which will feature three of my "quilt" acrylic paintings. This show runs all of April with the artist/opening reception Thursday (today!) from 6-9 p.m.. Then there is the annual spring show for the Strathcona Society of Artists. This show runs April 17-19. I will have a variety of works in this show.

My solo show at the local cafe Common Ground (Sherwood Park) is wrapping up this Friday and I am preparing for another solo show at the Glenrose Hospital. In the meantime, I am trying to complete some larger acrylic paintings for an upcoming show sponsored by the Alberta Society of Artists. These paintings will all be based on quilt patterns.

So, now I am off to pick up my brushes and palette and get to work.

Another Winter Art Show

Gallery 501 in Sherwood Park is hosting their annual member show and sale from January 11-February 25, 2018. The artist/opening reception is January 11 from 7-9 at Gallery 501. I will have some pieces in this exhibition.   Come on out and enjoy some great local art!

Keep Painting Quilts

So in the summer I started to experiment with acrylic paints and I decided to start off quite simple as I had not used acrylics in a long time nor had I painted in a very long time (several decades for sure). I decided to start with painting quilt patterns. They are based on simple geometric shapes (square, triangle and occasionally the circle) and use bright vibrant colours. For me, it was a pretty obvious choice...learn about colour, paint,  and try to stay in the lines!  So now I have become "hooked". I am currently on my eighth quilt painting and I have plans to do several more at a much larger scale
 (24 x 24).

Sherwood Park Hospital Now Displaying Local Art!

The Sherwood Park Hospital is now displaying art work from the Strathcona Art Society. The pieces are quite small (less than 20 inches) and so the prices are great!! These works will remain on display (unless sold and then replaced with new works) until April 2018. I have one piece on display there. I also have several pastel works on display at the Misericordia Hospital. The art show at the Misericordia will run until February 3, 2018.  Lots of opportunity to view and, perhaps, purchase some great art!

Finally finished a "bigger" quilt painting!!

It took almost a week but I finally finished a larger acrylic quilt painting (20 x 20). I don't know if I will do any larger sizes (although I do have a couple of canvases sized 24 x 24). And now I return to my pastel paintings. I need to quite a few new pieces for a spring solo show in Sherwood Park. Paint..paint..paint.

Christmas Marketplace...Five Days and Counting

With my big Christmas event only five days away I am trying to desperately finish some more items. I am working on glass mosaic trees and snowflakes, snow globes and painted metal tree ornaments. Hopefully by Thursday everything will be complete and I will be ready for the show on Saturday and Sunday at the Ottewell Centre/Red Barn, Sherwood Park.
